• Netaji Jayanti or "Deshprem Divas" is an event celebrated in India to mark the birthday of a prominent Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on 23rd January. 
• Born in Cuttack, Odisha, Subhas Chandra Bose was born in a well-off family. 
• A brilliant student, Netaji ranked second in the matriculation examination and fourth in the Indian Civil Services (ICS) examination. 
• He quit his high-paying ICS job and came back to India from England in 1921 to join India’s struggle for independence.
• Initially a member of INC (Indian National Congress), Netaji opined that to earn freedom, it’s necessary to wage war against the British.
• He played a pivotal role in Indian independence movement.      
• He was the head of Indian National Army                                         
• He was the founder-head of the Azad Hind Government.       
• “Give me your blood, and I shall give you freedom”—the quote by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose inspired thousands of Indian youths to join the struggle for independence from the British colonial rule.
• He established a provisional government of Azad Hind in 1944 with a slogan 'Chalo Delhi'.
• He formed the Azad Hind Fauj, a military regiment designed to counter the British. 
• With socialist beliefs and thoughts, Netaji inspired millions of youths to join the struggle for independence.
• The Government of India has decided to observe Netaji Subash Chandra Bose's birth anniversary on January 23 every year as Parakram Diwas.
• In 2018, PM Modi visited Andaman and Nicobar Islands and joined the programme to mark 75th anniversary of hoisting Tricolour by Netaji Bose - renaming Ross Island as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep, Neil Island as Shaheed Dweep and the Havelock Island as Swaraj Dweep. 
• Recently, in January 2019, a Netaji museum was inaugurated by PM Modi at Red Fort, New Delhi.
